one of my favorite sewing projects: a self-drafted circle dress, made from an RP custom fabric 58″ circular panel.

Hey y’all! Welcome!

I’m April Simpson-Hunt,  a stay at home/work from home mama to 4 crazy kids. (3 boys and 1 girl). I love “practicing” photography (still learning…and the learning curve ismuch harder than i thought. lol). I also love to craft, take on DIY projects that never get finished, read, (when I find time…which is almost never!) decorate my home, bake and spend time with my family. My true passion in life is sewing, though. I have been creating hand crafted goodies & clothing for over 15 years.

I consider myself a “sewist,” which is a term for someone who practices art, in sewing form. I love to sew fabric “strike offs” for designers and test patterns for designers (most of whom I consider friends at this point). But more than any of these things, I love to simply create. To cut my fabric with a vision and stitch it back together. To try and figure out how to make it do what I want it to. Then to add little details and special touches that are almost imperceptible to the naked eye, but make the piece my very own. That, to me, is bliss.

I’ve been working behind the scenes online in some capacity for over 15 years. Most of that time was spent working for others. Most of the time was spent working for others, as a social media manager, online store manager, ghost writer, editor, podcast producer & virtual assistant. I have also sold off and on via one online marketplace or another for the same amount of time. I’ve sold antiques and glassware on eBay, as a power seller, I sold new items purchased on clearance and through liquidation stores using the Amazon FBA program, and I’ve sold my handmade babywearing accessories on Etsy as well. If it’s an online job, odds are, I’ve had it! 🙂

I am so thrilled to be doing what is it that I love best, sewing and sharing my pretty things. I’ve taken a hiatus from selling, for the moment. I’m not sure which direction it is I’m headed in, business wise. This could be because it’s a bit hard to think, while dealing with 2 toddlers and 2 preteens at home. 😉 Very soon, I’ll figure out my exact business plan and launch my website again (www.mermaidmamadesigns.com), but as of now, I’m content to just create and share! I’m so blessed to be able to stay home with my kids and I’m so thrilled to have been able to stay with them…but I’m sure this setup won’t last forever. It’s bound to come to an end, soon enough. 🙂

I also love to help people in any way that I can, so if you would like to learn more about sewing, online selling, working from home, crafting, DIY projects, homeschooling, cooking…anything, really, I would love to help! A very blurry shot…but one that includes almost all of my kids and we were all smiling!
One of my favorites from the Flosstyle baby carrier pattern test

Have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for visiting & reading!
